Transitions
Transitions are segues that lead the listener from one thought to the next. Novice speakers don't include transitions, making their presentations choppy. Transitions signal the audience that you're changing gears - you're going to be making a new point or ending your presentation. Transitions also create a smooth flow of ideas and provide the fine finishing that adds polish.
To develop transitions, think of what you just discussed and what you plan to speak about next.
- "That brings me to the next point, which is …"
- "Now that we've discussed advertising, let's take a look at direct mail …"
